Smart Blind Stick
An assistive navigation stick for visually impaired individuals that detects obstacles in multiple zones and issues audio/haptic alerts.
About the Project
Designed with empathy and accessibility at its core, this electronic mobility cane enhances safety for visually impaired people. Using an array of ultrasonic distance sensors positioned at varying angles, it detects both ground obstacles and knee-to-waist hazards that traditional canes miss, translating obstacle proximity into intuitive haptic buzzer vibrations.
Key Engineering Features
Multi-angle ultrasonic obstacle detection covering forward and ground planes
Proportional haptic vibration feedback that intensifies as obstacles approach
Acoustic buzzer tone patterns for water/puddle and elevation change detection
Lightweight ergonomic mounting with minimal power consumption
